Fallen - The Haunted

Character sketch of one of my more recent creations. This one is deeply inspired by the now out of print Demon: The Fallen line from White Wolf.

Ferrusiel, former Artificer before the time of the angels' rebellion against the Creator, an angel tasked with weaving the backbone of iron into the earth's stone, was once a much happier soul than he has become. Rising against the order he was created into, he wanted to show mortals what wonders he had wrought beneath the surface of the earth, demonstrate the intricacies of natural ore lines. This desire brought him to seek out one of the Nereid, an angel of Longing who would plant the idea of delving into the ground into mortal hearts.

The two angels became close, beloved, but then the War of Wrath came. Torn apart and sent to different fronts of the battle between the rebellious Sebettu and the loyal Elohim, Ferrusiel lost track of his love. Placed at the front of the war, he was imprisoned quickly with the rest when the War of Wrath was drawn to an end.

Now, the Maelstrom has released Ferrusiel to the present, locking him away in an entirely mortal shell through which he can only reclaim a part of his identity. Serving the Infernal Court of Bréigebaile (a fictional city I'm currently co-developing), he is one of The Earth's Bones, an enforcer for the Triumvirate of the Infernal Baron Dragantine. Yet even with a new lease on existance, the loss of his love torments him still, a pain as great as that endured in his imprisonment.

The image depicts Ferrusiel's Apocalyptic or Revelatory Form, the true visage of what he is beneath his mortal shell. It is warped by both his torment and his duties as an enforcer, altered by the ordered Final Destruction of monstrous demons deemed a threat to his Baron. In this case, he has recently left a battle, forced to draw on his inner monster willingly to manifest more of his hidden strength for survival.
