The year is 2142.  Seven years after the great disasters began.

Earth?  Sure, it used to be.  The planet we all knew and loved, or at least knew and lived on.  It was the year 2135, and the people of the free world were informed that life as we knew it, was over.

They called it an E.L.E.  An Extinction Level Event, a catastrophe so overwhelming that it could wipe out all life on Earth.  The meteor dubbed Revelations, named for the biblical account of the end of the world.

Scientists first noticed the meteor only two months before projected impact, not nearly enough time to divert the stone mass.  It was the size of the Australian continent when first detected, large enough to decimate an entire hemisphere.  The world leaders tried to destroy the Revelations Meteor, but failed.  Missile attempts merely broke small pieces from the mass, reducing it nearly by half, but creating several dozen smaller meteors that held close to its original gravitational track.

It was soon realized that Revelations would impact with the Pacific ocean near the Equator.  Its sheer mass would cause tidal waves that would flood the Pacific coastlines, its impact would be great enough to cause similar waves on the Atlantic front within hours.  The entire world could be washed away.

The news reports were sent out in every country.  We were instructed to abandon our homes and retreat into the mountainous regions.  North America filtered into the Rockies and the Appalachians, Europe fled into the Alps, Asia to the Himilayas and central Asian inland areas, and South America to the Andes, while Africa was evacuated into the central Asian landmass.  Sure, there were hold-outs, people who refused to abandon their land and stayed behind, but most did as suggested.

Myself, I'm here in the northern Appalachians, better known as the Adirondaks... but we'll get to that later.  On with the account of what happened before what brought the state of being we've been placed into.

Revelations made impact on August 18th at midnight with the central Pacific ocean.  As predicted, tidal waves swept through the coastlines.  Now, we don't know exactly what happened on the other continents unfortunately, so I can't say what's left of Europe, South America, Asia, or Africa, but hopefully someone, somewhere, will be writing an account to mirror my own in those locations.  North America, however, I can speak about.

Everything west of the Rockies was washed away.  All of the historical landmarks of the 20th and 21st centuries that had been painstakingly preserved by historians were wiped out.  From Mexico to Alaska, there was flooding, destroyed buildings, and the death of those who stayed behind.  The earthquake of 2098 that had separated California from the American landmass was undone, the sheer force of the impact pressing the state back into the contiguous United States, although now it had been raised as a plataeu nearly fifty feet above its surrounding states.  Quite a way to undo one of nature's disasters.  Water washed into the Grand Canyon, creating what has now been classified as the seventh Great Lake despite having no connection to the original five.

But then, the aftershock of the impact of Revelations came.

Tidal waves from the Atlantic struck the eastern coast, nearly flooded beyond the Appalachian range.  We were helpless as the waves crashed against some of the higher peaks, we had no way of knowing if we would survive it, but we did.

Water flooded around the mountains, crashing into the plains of the central U.S. and washing away nearly everything from Texas to North Dakota.  It swept from the North through the Canadian maritime, flooding through Quebec and Ontario to reach its southern counterpart and continued west until reaching the foothills of the Rockies.  The entire continent was wiped clean in a matter of hours.  We didn't know it yet, but that would be the least of our problems.

Two months passed while we left the mountains to see what had become of our countries.  All communication had been knocked out except for sattelite internet connections on laptop computers, but the battery supplies were so low that we didn't dare use them until we knew we could spare the energy.  I joined a scouting group, travelled to the Rockies and checked in with our countrymen.  They had power plants that were still active, and with a satellite connection showed us something we never thought we would hear.

An eighth continent had risen from the center of the Atlantic, precisely opposite of the impact point of Revelations.  We were astounded.  Tectonic shifts were expected, but not a new landmass being propelled from the ocean floor.  Sattelites continued to watch over the landmass for a year.  Closer investigation revealed intact structures, lush plains and forests, and small mountain ranges.  It was as if a civilization had been raised from the depths entirely intact.

Our fellow survivors began to rebuild where they could, mainly to grow crops and resume agricultural integrity to keep us fed and help us to survive.

In the observation time, we prepared man-powered boats and were about to launch exploration parties.  They had gathered at the Floridian peninsula when they first saw them.

Great ships were approaching on the horizon.  Bursts of fire and electricity generated from seemingly nothing rocked the coast.  We were under attack, and had no idea what the enemy was using.  We only received the radio reports from the launch party, reports that spoke of humans throwing fire and lightning from their hands, that spoke of warhounds composed of shadows.  The last thing we heard before the radio cut out were the words: For Atlantis.

Elsewhere in the northern regions, we received reports from maritime Canada and northern New York state of great winged beasts covered in scales and breathing fire from their mouths soaring through the clouds after rising from the waters of Lake Champlain and the inlets and sounds of Newfoundland.  They were reporting dragons.  Yeah, I was in a state of disbelief too.

We soon realized that our communication tools had been stolen or destroyed while we slept.  We lost all contact with our countrymen, and all hope of contacting our fellow humans around the world, but we had the sinking feeling that they were in the same predicament.

Magical assaults, Atlantis, dragons, it was as if the myths of the world were showing themselves now.
This is the general introduction to the world of Risen Myths, the second campaign setting that I have been working on. It's been on the Veghinix message boards for a while now, but I might as well port it over here.
